With the first and second team games, casualties of the bad weather, I went along to watch the third team play Chorltonians in a cup match. As no one can usually be bothered writing a report, I've been roped into writing it. The game kicked off in surprisingly good conditions, given the weather, and it was Moston who started the brighter. Quicker in the tackle in Midfield, and with Musi causing a lot of problems for the opposition defence, with his pace and running down the channels. Musi had two early chances, after fine runs, but his finishing was not up to the same standard as his approach play. After a third run, again got him into the box, he again spurned the chance but this time Lee Thomas was on hand to finish the rebound. It was quickly two soon after when Adam Harrison was caught by a trailing leg and awarded a penalty. Chris Moss stepped up and finished the penalty easily into the corner. With Chris Kennedy having to go off with what looked like a bad gash on his head, Mark Roberts came on to show of his unique brands of dribbles, fancy flicks and bad passes from full back.
With the rain still coming down and the pitch cutting up badly, it became more difficult for both sides to play much good football. With Moston two nil up and looking reasonably comfortable at the back, Mike decided he needed a bit of experience to see out the game, and finally gave the crowd what they wanted, as Dave Kinder was introduced to the fray. In an even bolder substitution, Mike introduced a new player up front, a tall, awkward and strange looking character who, without being unkind, looked slightly simple. Amazingly after running around like a headless chicken for 10 minutes without touching the ball, he then set up the game clinching third goal. A heavy piece of control just outside the box, falling to Dave Kinder, who hit a screaming twenty-five yarder into the top corner, past the young, agile goalkeeper, who had been having a fine game beforehand. Alright, that's an exaggeration, as he looked old enough to be Kinder's dad and must have been knocking on 80. This goal sent the crowd into raptures and even saw one idiot running onto the pitch to celebrate with the delighted goalscorer.
So the third team are left to fly the flag in cup competitions for the club this season, after a well deserved victory. I'm sure Mike won't be short of players for future cup games, especially given the seconds lack of games, in coming weeks. At least Mike won't have to give anymore games, to our own Peter Crouch lookalike.

The KO time for this game had to be started 25 minutes later than scheduled because the home pitch of Crab Lane, (Broadhurst playing fields) was unplayable, so we made a joint decision to play at Lower Crumpsall Park. We had no Darius and Michael B today so Craig Mckay was given the role as Captain.
Brook began their game all over the place. Within minutes they lost their formation, they were ball chasing, and were bunching together as if they had gone back to their first years at mini soccer level. What the hell was happening here I thought?...... Everything was being played on one side of the pitch. Deb and I couldn't believe what we were seeing.
It took 20 minutes for Kyle Hark to put Brook ahead after receiving a superb ball delivered by Craig on the right, he scored with what I must admit was a great left footer. It bounced over the keepers' outstretched right arm and into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Pheew.....at last. We thought that this might change things and encourage Brook to demonstrate their usual standard of football, but unfortunately it didn't. There was nothing much more to report for the remainder of the first half because as already mentioned Brooks performance was very disappointing and I couldn't wait to tell them so during the half time break. Things certainly had to change and quick if they wanted to stay where they have remained all season (at the top of the table). 5 minutes into the second half Kyle scored Brook's second from a Jack Keightley cross. After being offered a spell up front Lewis Brennan hadn't prepared himself for the bounce when he missed a sitter a few minutes later.A few changes had to be made in Brooks' midfield and defence as players appeared to be loosing pace.
In the 40th minute Crab Lane were awarded a penalty as a player was brought down on edge of the box. It was a great powerful shot, which afforded our keeper no chance of survival. This brought the score to 1 v 2. This episode appeared to unnerve Brooks' back four as they finally started battling and putting in some good challenges. Kyle Hark got his hat trick in the 45th minute with a superb header after a cross into the box by Niall Rafferty. A few minutes later Harky boy followed through again with his 4th during a scramble in the area involving a number of players. In the dying minutes he knocked in his 5th with a master blaster low, hard shot, which rumbled straight into the bottom left corner of the net. The keeper had no time to blink with this one let alone attempt to save it. Final score 1 v 5. We are so glad that you won this guys, but I am going to be honest with you. You certainly have to switch on much sooner than you did today if you want to keep up your 100% record. The last 10 minutes is definitely not good enough, particularly with the games we've got coming up! Well done Kyle Hark for getting Brooks MOTM award today and a very Well done to Craig for trying your best in the Captain's role and particularly for being nominated by the opposition manager as MOTM.

The 1st XI went in search of their first league victory since mid January to pick up their challenge for the championship which is still in their own hands having lost only two matches all season.
Again as in recent matches the strong wind and a rutted football pitch were not conducive to playing fluent football. Both teams had difficulty in producing clear cut chances, but it was Moston who took the lead when Michael Brady got his head on to a ball on the edge of the six yard box to head home. On the half hour Gatley equalised when the Moston defence failed to clear the ball in their box, and the ball fell kindly for a Gatley player to finish from about eight yards. Moston took the lead again quite quickly with a move down the left when Rossy and Jonny Munson provided a ball for Darren Dunleavey to supply the finish. HT 2-1.
Gatley were still in the match and tried hard to find an equaliser. Moston's general pressure came only from their own mistakes but their third goal came courtesy of a Jonny Munson ball into the box being backheaded into his own goal by the Gatley centreback.
Moston's fourth came from the penalty spot after Darren Dunleavey had been brought down. Darren stepped down from taking the kick allowing Jonny to score clinically from the spot kick. Mark Roberts had a opportunity following a fine solo run but was thwarted by the Gatley keeper. FT 4-1.
They say to win a league you sometimes have to win ugly. This was one of those days.

The seconds took on Old Trafford at Smedley on Saturday, looking for revenge for a three-nil defeat, only a few weeks ago. Against an Old Trafford side with a few changes from the last time we played them, Moston themselves had a few players missing and defender Paul Mcloughlin and centre-forward Mark Terris had to take their places in centre midfield.
The game started brightly with both sides exchanging chances. Old Trafford looking dangerous through their right winger and he could have opened up the scoring after a fine run but his shot came back of the post. He got in again soon after but again he was thwarted but this time by Ian in goal. Moston also looked dangerous on the break with Fitzpatrick being a particular threat. It was from his run down the left that Moston took the lead, squeezing the ball past the keeper at the near post. Both sides again exchanged chances and with a strong wind behind Moston in the first half, the next goal was going to be particularly crucial. It was Moston who got the second goal just before half-time. Another Fitzpatrick cross from the left, eventually falling at the feet of Chris Ferns at the back post and he finished.
The second half could have been a tricky one for Moston, given the strong wind against us, but instead we put on a better performance. Moston took a three goal lead, when Terris received the ball from a throw, got away from his defender and hit a fine cross field ball to Fitzpatrick, who ran onto the ball and hit the ball low and hard, under the keeper. Fitz could have had a hat-trick but after a Monyei shot had rebounded off the keeper, Fitz headed over when it seemed easier to score. Moston did add a fourth soon after, a through ball from Terris put Mussi through but after he found himself blocked off, Monyei was able to get on the rebound, get around the keeper and tap-in. Old Trafford got themselves a consolation, when there centre forward went through on goal and finished
A good performance from the seconds and we were able to gain some semblance of revenge for our defeat, a few weeks ago. We still have a 100% home record in the league this season and if we can keep this going into our game on Saturday at Newton, we will be crowned champions.
