The seconds defended their 100% record at Hollingworth this week, again able to field their full quota of 14. To be honest, it wasn’t the teams’ best performance and the game was a very poor one. Moston never really got going in the first half and it was only really a couple of good runs and crosses down the right from Worsley that we really threatened. From one of these crosses, Terris should have probably done better with a header at the back post. Our opposition probably didn’t help matters as they didn’t really seem interested in winning the game, content on stopping us scoring and hoping for a goal on the break or from a set-piece. The second half was much the same with Hollingworth rarely threatening and Moston only really creating the odd half chance. However, as the game began to run into the last 10 or 15 minutes, substitute Monyei got in behind the Hollingworth back four but instead of passing across goal to Fitzpatrick for a simple finish, he decided to shoot tamely at the goalkeeper. The game though finally came to life in the last 5 minutes.. Moston taking the lead when Mark Terris, battled hard in the Hollingworth half to win the ball back from a defender, cut inside and from just outside the box, hit a fine low strike into the bottom corner. Almost from the kick off though, Hollingworth were given a chance to equalise from the penalty spot after our keeper Ian Holcroft brought down their advancing forward. However, Ian redeemed himself by making a fine penalty save low to his right. Moston then went straight up the other end and clinched the match, with another Worsley special. He picked up the ball around twenty five yards from goal, and hit an unstoppable shot with his left foot on the half-volley, which went in off the bar. So far so go for Moston and we are now one of only two teams in the division with one hundred per cent records. This was by far out worst performance of the four games and to be honest, the game was probably not great to watch. However our opponents spoiling tactics didn’t help, but it is important that we don’t get frustrated and continue to try and play good football and attack, which has been the basis of our success this season and last. |
