The seconds were back at Smedley, defending their 100% record against Gatley, again able to field a strong full quota of 14. While it took us about 85 minutes to open the scoring last week, it took less than 2 minutes to get the opening goal this week. Monyei forcing the Gatley left back into making a howler and he was able to take the ball into the area and finish well. Mike McElvaney made it two soon after, heading in an Edge corner. Moston did have other chances but it was on the whole a bit of a lacklustre first half performance against a poor side who rarely threatened.

However, it did get better in the second half, especially after we got the third killer goal. Monyei getting in behind the Gatley defence, turning inside his defender and finishing well. . This seemed to be the spark for an improved performance and Moston became totally dominant. McElvaney getting his second, rolling his defender in the box and finishing. It was soon five and it was good to see Marc Fiztpatrick back on the scoresheet after recoving from his bad injury last season. Knocking the ball in from close range at the back post,  after a good cross by Edge.  To avoid accusations of bias, I am not going to go on too much about the sixth goal. However I did manage to flick in the sixth from Ryan Henry's pass . I am hoping this will be a spark for a goalscoring spree but given this was my first goal for the club in nearly 100 games, it seems highly unlikely.

Another comfortable win, six more goals and another clean sheet. It was a good performance on the whole, albeit against a very poor side who rarely threatened and Ian again had nothing to do. However we can only beat what is put in front of us and it looks like we won't have the goal difference problem that cost us last season. A sterner test lays ahead next week against third in the table Newton.  Although if we play anywhere near out potential, we will be more than a match for anyone in this league.
