First against second met at Smedley on Saturday and as with the last top of the table clash, it was Moston who again came out comfortable winners. Bearing similarities with the Old Strets game, the first half was a disappointing one with Moston not really getting into their stride. Burnage nearly taking the lead when their forward had a goal chalked off for handball. The handball was a little harsh but there was some justice in that he was about 5 yards offside. Moston did take the lead in the first half though, Mike McElvaney making a fine run through the heart of the Burnage defence and finishing from the edge of the box. Burnage did equalise before half-time though,  after I let the smallest player on the pitch win a header and their forward read the flick on quickest and finished well into the corner.

One each at half-time and Moston were reasonably happy with this in truth after not playing well and knowing that we always come strong in the second half. This again was the case as within twenty minutes of the second half the game was over as a contest after a quick fire three goal blitz from Moston. Mo Boakye adding two, firstly finishing well after turning inside the defender in the box. Then after a fine ball inside the full-back from Terris, set away Edge, he converted the resulting cross. It was four soon after, Smith heading in Mo's long throw, making it a prolific two goals in around 100 games. The obligatory Mark Terris penalty came next, after a handball was penalised and he again converted expertly. Burnage did get a second but the four goal advantage was restored soon after, Mike McElvaney getting his second and Moston's sixth. Apologies to Marc Fitzpatrick but I am going to have to mention the miss of the match which should have made it seven. After a brilliant run which saw him skin most of the Burnage back four and race into the area, he managed to blaze the ball over from about 10 yards out.

Another excellent second half performance saw us  beat another of our nearest challengers and keep us top of the table and unbeaten. If we start playing well in first halves as well, who knows what sort of score lines we will start getting. The league table shows impressive reading with 56 goals scored and only twelve conceded.
