Moston Brook ( 5 - 3 ) Newton Heath

This game had a local derby feel to it especially with three of the opposition being ex Moston Brook players. ( Gavin, Marshy & Wes ).

The game started with the Newton Heath players seemingly the brighter of the two teams. They were working hard for each other and took the lead when possession was lost on the half way line following a clearance out of defence. Moston's back line was caught square when the ball was put through and an opposition player ran onto it and at the second attempt gave Newton Heath the lead. This buoyed the oppositions players especially with a number of Moston's players having a go at each other. However

Moston levelled through a Mike Brady penalty following a handball. A number of chances came Moston's way keeping Gavin in goal busy. From a free kick just inside Newton Heath's half by Jonny Munson Moston took the lead. The ball was well hit and it's flight was too much for Gavin to cope with and it sailed into the net. HT 2-1.

At half-time the message was to concentrate on our own game, play football, and improve the pace of our game. Darren Dunleavey hit our third but Newton Heath weren't prepared to lie down even though Jonny was certainly giving their defence a torrid time. I lost count on how many fouls one of their defenders had made before he was booked. Newton Heath scored a second but Jonny Munson scored his second to give us a two goal cushion. Newton in the last fifteen scored a third and they were definitely going for it until Jonny completed his hat-trick when scoring Moston's fifth to kill off the game. FT 5-3.
