Moston's 1st XI hit Irlam with eight goals! One better than the previous week the main difference being we kept a clean sheet in doing so. Ian Holcroft deputised for ‘Beanhead' who was in Nottingham on Damien's stag weekend.
Moston worked hard in trying to breakdown Irlam's rearguard in the first half. A number of chances came our way, Jonny had two goals disallowed one for offside and the other for a dodgy foul. Paul Vayro who having carried the ball the length of Irlam's half with an excellent run hit a post with only the keeper to beat. Jonny who is in a rich run of form broke the deadlock to give us a first half lead when rounding their keeper. HT 1-0.
The second half brief was to continue with the same effort as the first and try and improve our final ball. It was important to get a second to make life a bit easier and give us a cushion. Johnny did just that when from a defensive situation a quick throw from Ian down our right side saw Mike Brady supply Jonny with a terrific ball and his pace beat the Irlam defence followed with a sweet finish. Now it was time for Paul Vayro to get in on the act when outstripping Irlam's defence he scored two quick goals to put the game well out of Irlam's reach. It was proving to be a good allround performance with everybody contributing in this good team effort. Our fifth and Jonny's hat-trick came when Mike Brady's effort hit the bar and hit Jonny on the head on the goalline. Paul Vayro scored another two bringing his tally in this match to four when his close control took him past Irlam's defenders to finish clinically. Our final goal came when Jonny went down in Irlam's box a penalty was duly awarded which Mike Brady put away.
The second half had many memorable moments not only with the quality of the goals scored, but also from seeing Paul McLoughlin dribbling round several Irlam players,
Mark Roberts go on a mazy run which saw him with only the keeper to beat this time their keeper won. Crumpy had two tremendous opportunities to score. A header from a corner and when teed up by Paul Vayro he volleyed over the bar. In any good team performance there are many unsung heroes but I have to mention the work rate of Darren Dunleavey who worked tremendously hard for the cause. FT 8-0.
Ten wins out of eleven and a great start to the season!
