The 1st XI left two of their squad ( Danny & Dave ) at the ‘Blue Bell' due to the 2nd XI being short, which mean't they went with a bare eleven. The time it took to sort it out, and with one car getting lost, and another making a detour via Levenshulme it made the 1st XI late for their game against second from the bottom of the league Spurley Hey at Warth Meadow.
This didn't make for ideal preparation for this match, and the first half wasn't up to recent standards. Apart from one shot which the Heys keeper made from Jonny Munson all our other first half efforts were either off target or not well hit. Paul McLoughlin was elbowed in the ear and minor repairs saw him return quickly to the action. To be fair to Heys they deserved the half time scoreline. HT 0-0.
Basically we just had to raise our game, and not give silly fouls away or get frustrated with the referees decisions. We eventually broke the deadlock when a fine move down the left produced a cross from Darren Dunleavey which hit the bar and Jonny Munson headed the rebound into the net. Our football game improved with both fullbacks Oggie and Robbo making good contributions to our game. Heys weren't for giving up, and had an opportunity to equalise in a crowded Moston box where several clearances were attempted before Beanhead was able to smother the ball. He then made a save for the cameras tipping a shot over the bar. However in possession Moston continued to attack, and another fine move saw Jonny set Paul Vayro up but he screwed his shot wide. However minutes later Vayro increased our lead when put through on the right, and on this occasion he finished with a clean hit shot. Paul McLoughlin came in for more repairs to his ear which made him look a little like Terry Butcher did for England many years ago, and whilst he was off the field our third and final goal came from Jonny Munson who fired home his twentyseventh goal of the season. FT 3-0.
Eleven wins out twelve is a great start to the season but it's strange that probably our poorest performances have both been away to the bottom two sides in the league.
