The third game in a row against top opposition today as Moston aired the full squad against third placed Chaddy End in this early encounter. Brook were pretty slow out the blocks and were forced to defend for most of the first half. A series of changes seemed to upset any rhythm Brook had but when Chaddy did break through Field was on hand with a string of saves that would have put the England goalkeeping squad to shame. The first half saw Brook restricted too few chances but when Burke and Jackson found themselves in space their advances were quickly blocked out by the Chaddy defence. The remainder of the first half saw Hammet, Egan,Thomas and Gaffney all brought into action as Brook cancelled out any Chaddy advances. The second half saw Willis and Taylor and Goulden introduced and all gave good accounts of themselves, but this half saw Field highlighted again with some great stops. The hammer blow came with five minutes to go Brook conceded a free kick just outside the box, the ball was whipped in and Field could only tip the ball on to the bar, the ball dropped onto the line and was hammered home by the advancing Chaddy forward. In the final stages Brook had the chance to equalise Goulden had an effort just wide and when Taylor was upended Jackson free kick was just wide. Final score one nil to Chaddy but if the management had not made so many changes who knows, but this half of the season is all about having a look at different formulas and all players gave a good account of themselves. Man of the match for Brook and the Chaddy End manager went to Field for a goalkeeping master class. |
