Anyone observing from the side lines today would be sure to admit that this was a great game from start to finish, particularly in the first half. Both teams played some great football and kept the match flowing throughout.
Andrew Bowker was the first to bag one for Brook in the 12th minute after a superb long ball pass from Jack Keightley in midfield. Chaddy Grasshoppers equalised with a great shot from their right winger shortly afterwards. Play was pretty much equal from then on between both teams until Michael Brewster put Brook back in front after picking up a rebound ball from a fantastic Darius free kick just before the half time whistle.
1st half time score 1 vs. 2.
Brook made a couple of changes during the half time interval, which began in a similar style to the first. Both teams again displayed some fine skills and a great team spirit. We welcome back Matthew Egan after a long spell out with the broke collar bone injury that he'd picked up against Marauders in September. Also on was Lewis Brennan in defence and up front Reece Flynn who was joined by Craig Mckay. Craig had been given the role of striker after spending the first half firing himself up on the side line and was now ready to take action. Within minutes of stepping onto the pitch, he scored a blinder from the edge of the box after cheekily taking on three players and running the ball into position before striking with precision.
A little mistake by the Brook defence allowed the Grasshoppers through on goal and they wasted no time in slotting home their second of the day. Brook had a variety of chances after this but for some reason they were struggling to finish. However with 6 minutes remaining Jack who was having a tremendous game got through on goal and would have been sure to score but unfortunately he was sandwiched by a number of Grasshoppers and brought down in the box. Brook was awarded with a penalty. Niall Rafferty was promised the job of the next penalty taker a few months ago. So his chance had finally arrived. He placed the ball on the spot, rubbed his hands together and slicked his eyebrows and his hair back before running up and right hoofing and superb rocket shot straight into the bottom right hand corner of the net. ‘Fantastic goal'! He then had the cheek to shout over to me ‘told ya so' with a big cheeky grin on his face. ‘Ok Niall, the jobs yours....' The final whistle blew ending the game 2 vs. 4.
Deb and I applaud you all today, as this was a very good game and you all played well. MOTM was a very hard decision to make today as there were a few of you that deserved it. Well done to Andrew Bowker for keeping the rapid Grasshopper midfielder at bay throughout the whole game. Well done to Darius for helping out in defence as well as midfield and well done to Sam Kelly for having to hold off two or three players at a time on your own at certain points within the second half. However we decided on Jack Keightley for an outstanding performance in midfield, your delivering of the ball today was spot on every time. Well done...
