With the first and second team games, casualties of the bad weather, I went along to watch the third team play Chorltonians in a cup match.  As no one can usually be bothered writing a report, I've been roped into writing it. The game kicked off in surprisingly good conditions, given the weather, and it was Moston who started the brighter. Quicker in the tackle in Midfield, and with Musi causing a lot of problems for the opposition defence, with his pace and running down the channels. Musi had two early chances, after fine runs, but his finishing was not up to the same standard as his approach play. After a third run, again got him into the box, he again spurned the chance but this time Lee Thomas was on hand to finish the rebound. It was quickly two soon after when Adam Harrison was caught by a trailing leg and awarded a penalty. Chris Moss stepped up and finished the penalty easily into the corner. With Chris Kennedy having to go off with what looked like a bad gash on his head, Mark Roberts came on to show of his unique brands of dribbles, fancy flicks and bad passes from full back.

With the rain still coming down and the pitch cutting up badly, it became more difficult for both sides to play much good football. With Moston two nil up and looking reasonably comfortable at the back, Mike decided he needed a bit of experience to see out the game, and finally gave the crowd what they wanted, as Dave Kinder was introduced to the fray. In an even bolder substitution, Mike introduced a new player up front, a tall, awkward and strange looking character who, without being unkind, looked slightly simple. Amazingly after running around like a headless chicken for 10 minutes without touching the ball, he then set up the game clinching third goal.  A heavy piece of control just outside the box, falling to Dave Kinder, who hit a screaming twenty-five yarder into the top corner, past the young, agile goalkeeper, who had been having a fine game beforehand. Alright, that's an exaggeration, as he looked old enough to be Kinder's dad and must have been knocking on 80. This goal sent the crowd into raptures and even saw one idiot running onto the pitch to celebrate with the delighted goalscorer.

So the third team are left to fly the flag in cup competitions for the club this season, after a well deserved victory. I'm sure Mike won't be short of players for future cup games, especially given the seconds lack of games, in coming weeks. At least Mike won't have to give anymore games, to our own Peter Crouch lookalike.

Last weeks team: D Gleave, M Budzik, K Thomas, C Kennedy, C Parker, D Walsh, A Harrison, A Feeke,

M Kaffo, C Moss (1), L Thomas (1). Subs. M Roberts, D Kinder (1), A McLaughlin
