This match was a very important game for the club. Firstly we had to continue our winning run to keep pressure on our rivals at the top of the division, and on the other hand we were representing the club in their association with North Manchester High School helping children in their media studies. The match was played at Hopwood Hall on their 3G surface to make sure the wet weather didn't interfere with this fixture. We were very well supported by members of our mini-soccer, and youth sections who attended the game, and eleven year old Michael Heffernan was our mascot for the day.
In the early stages we didn't play our fluent football, too many long passes were played, and in doing so we gave possession away easily. Stoconians had a good chance to take the lead when their No.7 broke through but Beanhead came to our rescue coming out quickly to collect the ball. Jonny and Paul tried to link up, and a number of opportunities nearly came from clever step overs. Moston opened the scoring when Paul Vayro seemed to hit a shot that looked to be going wide until it hit a Stoconian defender to divert into the net. However shortly after Dale Lambert replaced Paul who wasn't having a good day with Eddie Aspin the referee, with Darren Dunleavey moving back up front. HT 1-0.
The second half began with Moston improving on their movement, and passing. They increased their lead when from a right wing corner Michael Brady won a near post header directing it to the far post where Jonny Munson headed our second goal. Our third goal was a screamer from Michael Brady whose shot flew into the net giving the Stoconian keeper no chance. However Stoconians weren't to be out done when they scored from a shot from about thirty yards out close to the touchline which flew over Beanhead, and in to the net. Moston sealed the result when Michael McElvaney hit a crisp shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. The final minutes saw Moston playing some neat football with both Fitz and Monyei getting involved in the action. FT 4-1.
We now look forward to our visit to Stretfordians in midweek who are third in the league, but the pressure is on them to achieve a result.
