It only took Brook a short period of time to settle into this cup game and when they did every member of the squad were fantastic. The passes and runs between them were superb. In the 12th minute Michael Brewster provided Kyle Hark with an excellent through ball, which resulted in Kyle scoring a wonderful low shot goal in the bottom right hand corner of the net to put Brook ahead. Within minutes Brook’s Captain, Darius Photiou provided one of his usual perfect crosses into the box, which the Turton keeper ran out for but dropped. Ben Tucker wasted no time at all picking up the spillage and knocking home Brook’s 2nd.
In the 20th minute Michael Brewster was the next one to set up a great goal from a perfect cross. Darius received it and blasted it past the keeper like a rocket to make it 3 v 0.
There appeared to be a de ja vue incident moments after the kick off, when Michael Brewster crossed the ball once again and found Darius running down the wing. Only this time Darius cheekily chipped the ball over the keeper’s head to claim his second, which was Brook’s 4th.
Just before the half time whistle a shot by Niall Rafferty was knocked out of the area by the Turton keeper. Kyle Hark was in the right place at the right time to jump on the rebound ball and whack home Brook’s 5th. Half time score 5 v 0.
A few changes were made during the half time break, which allowed certain players a chance to try their luck in other positions.
Within minutes of kick off Andrew Bowker playing in defence sent a long clearance ball straight into the running path of Kyle Hark, who was clearly on form today and scored his hat trick after winning a one on one with the keeper.
Ten minutes later Ryan Kenny received a great pass from Andrew Bowker down the left wing. He was able to turn and run it past two players before sending it forward to Kyle Hark. Harky was waiting in centre-mid to quickly feed it through to Darius on the edge of the D. Darius’s one touch shot flew like a tornado past the keeper and walloped straight into the back of the net to provide him also with his hat trick. The score at this point was 7 v 0.
In the 50th minute Kyle Hark’s pass from centre mid stopped dead in the middle of a puddle. Ben Tucker won the challenge against two players and quickly passed it back to Kyle in order for him to get it forward to Michael Brewster. Michael who really deserved a goal today after all of the one’s he had set up, finally scored after tricking the keeper into going the wrong way with his left pegged low shot rumble. 8 v 0.
With only 3 minutes remaining a couple of Brook players appeared to slack off from their duties and fall out of position by drifting forward. They were obviously in search of some glory goals, but it backfired and clearly helped Turton claw a one back from this battering that they were getting.
Just as we thought that it was all over and were preparing for the final whistle, we got a pleasant surprise as Brook had one more trick up its sleeve. One of the best goals of the day and probably one of the best goals of the season came just after the kick off following this latest Turton goal. Craig McKay passed the ball short to Michael Brewster. Michael knocked it sideways towards Darius to have the last touch of the day. Darius met the ball coming towards him with the most powerful and accurate kick that we have seen in a long time. He had leathered it so hard and at such speed that neither the spectators nor the keeper could see it traveling through the air until it smacked like a giant bullet straight into the top right hand corner of the net. Final score 9 v 1.
This was a superb game that was not only enjoyable to watch but one that was memorable to see the squad play and behave like a solid unit. Well done to you all. However a particular well done goes to the Captain Darius and the others that followed him for offering support and positive words to your team mates. This clearly helps to build players confidence and will always be a welcome act y all on the field and in training as a part of the encouragement of others.
MOTM was very difficult to choose as you all did very well, but we have to choose for the record. Well done to Kyle Hark this was probably your best game all season even the opposition manager nominated you, great job. Deb and I thought Ben Tucker should be recognised for your overall fantastic performance today, you were excellent.
