Sunday 26th April 2009 Avro's Tournament
Today we took a 9 man squad to the Avros tournament, first time we have entered our team in this tournament and we were not sure who we would face. Teams in our group were Droylsden Juniors, Tytherington Juniors, Brandlesholme, Higher Blackler Rebels and a team we knew in Failsworth West C.
Results and very brief match reports Failsworth west C 1 vrs Moston Brook 0 A harsh penalty given against Bowles for falling on the ball resulted in the only goal of the game and with only 10 minutes one way found us chasing the game, although we had chances by Crone, Leech and Corrigan which went just of target. Higher Blackley Rebels 0 vrs Moston Brook 0 A tight game saw very little chances and some brave goalkeeping by Handley ended up with Bowles taking a whack in the face and forcing him to come off, good defensive play by Bamford, Tiiterton and Aspinall kept it goalless. Tytherington Juniors 2 vrs Moston Brook 0 There not many managers who I wont shake hands with but when we were one nil down and a free kick against us the Tytherington Manager encouraged his player to stay down for a few more seconds, not the spirit of the game or this tournament, this is not what we are supposed to be trying to coach into our players. A couple of mistakes in defence and a lack of us communicating was our downfall in this game ended up with a 2-0 defeat, some good midfield play by Crone and Leech could not get us a goal we deserved Droylsden Juniors 0 vrs Moston Brook 0 Some excellent wing play by Corrigan nearly got us the vital win that could of seen us progress us into the knockout stage, a well balanced Droylsden team stood strong and we couldn't break them down. Crone, Titterton and Bamford battled well in midfiled to no avail. Brandlsholme 0 vrs Moston Brook 0 This result didn't count for much as we were too far behind at this point and we were playing for pride. Handley made a couple of good stops in goal, Titterton, Aspinall and Bamford in defence, Bowles, Crone, Leech and Corrigan in midfield worked hard all through out the game with Smith leading the line up front. Well done to everyone who played, Training Tuesday night this week 6.00pm at Lower Crumpsall park. |
