Moston Brook 4ths entertained Old Strets fresh on the back of securing their place in the Halliwell Shield Final. Manager Mike Crump had selection headaches as the semi-final win came at a cost with several of his so called stars withdrawing through injury although i do feel that maybe they had one eye on the cup final. The culprits being Chris Yarwood, Enny Alatishe, Mark Morrison and Dave Brooks. Now i'm not a cynical person but if these players were injured then why were they playing keep ups and generally running round all night while watching the game. Hopefully should have some interesting answers when it comes to pick the cup final team!!!! Anyway Moston welcomed back Mike McElvaney and Daniel Murdoch and also Danny Grahamslaw. We also have a new keeper Young Liam Carty from the 3rd team. Moston have to start with ten men as we have a number of players who are dyslexic and cannot tell the time. Even with the ten men Moston make all the running and are unlucky on a couple of occassions not to score. Callum finally arrives so we now have 11 men. Strets were enjoying a little posession as the half wore on but Keeper Liam held firm. Moston began to get back on top and forced several corners. It was from one of these corners that we take the lead. Ryan Henry swings the corner in and rising at the back and powering a header into the net was Mark Terris. Gasps of surprise from all around the ground. This is because Tez is not known for his heading ability indeed he is the only man i know who is 5' 10" but jumps 4' 11" !! 1-0 quickly became 2 when from another corner and ironically from Tez after some good battling from Joe(thats another game without scoring) Ryan, Ryan Henry prods home from close range. That's 3 consecutive scoring games for Ryan now not a bad record from left back! Well left wingish. Oh sod it our main striker!! Half-time 2-0 to Moston. One change at half time saw Michael Budzik replaced by Captain Chris Kennedy. Although Joe Ryan might have something to say about that as he was made Honorary Captain for this game. the second half was a bit of a damp squid really with both teams cancelling each other out. Murdoch was marshalling our defence well and at the other end their keeper was in good form. Still we Manage to miss a couple of chances none more so when Chris Melia goes clean through with the keeper to beat only to put the ball over the bar. Strets made it an uneasy final 10 minutes as they score from a corner. Some terrible marking allowed Strets ageing centre half to get a free header which he duly put into the net.2-1 Despite this Moston hold on for the win and can still finish runners up. Next up is Aldermere away but most of the players will be focusing on the cup final next Thursday evening 19.00 kick off at Brantingham Road. Tickets are virtually sold out but anyone wishing to go should contact Joe Ryan on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it as he knows where there is a hole in the fence. Not the best of performances tonight but another 3 points in what has been a great season. Good performances from Callum and Danny and the outstanding Murdoch at centre half |
