Saturday 9th May 2009 Moston Brook 2 v AFC Clayton 4
The squad for today's game was Handley, Bamford, Crone, Leech, Bowles, Corrigan, Titterton, and Downie. Saturday's game against AFC Clayton was the second fixture in a row after the fixture was cancelled after new year. We started of slow and Clayton capitalised on a mix up in defence to take an early lead 0-1, a second defensive lapse gave the Clayton forward an easy chance to put them 2 up, moving towards half time. Straight from the kick off Bowles caught the Clayton keeper off guard and hit a sweet shot into the keeper's top right corner to get us back into the game at 1-2. More pressure by us pushed the Clayton team back and a long distance lob by Bamford sailed over the keeper to get us back into the game at 2-2 at half time. Second half was a close affair but we finally fell behind to two well taken goals by the Clayton team, despite the efforts of Handley in goal, Crone was up and down the pitch and run himself into the ground, Corrigan went on a Ronaldo like run, skipping over the ball and throwing dummies, but ended up being crowded out just before he was about to hit the finishing touch, to what could well have been the goal of the season. Bowles was a constant threat in midfield with his long range shooting, and Leech was all over, although he was in defence, Downie came on to add his presence up front but got little chance to shine, But all credit to Clayton they held out for a much deserved 4-2. This was our last game of the season and will give our young squad a well deserved break of 3 weeks before returning for the Moston Brook Tournament. Final result 2-4 Goals : Bowles, Bamford MOM: Bowles |
